Four-time Olympic champion features in 10m air pistol

With finals of the Women’s 10m Air Rifle and Men’s 10m Air Pistol, here’s everything you need to know about the first day of the Olympic Shooting competition at Tokyo 2020 on 24 July 2021.

What’s happening today?

In a day that will see the first shooting medal of Tokyo 2020, the action gets underway at 8.30am (local) with qualification for the Women’s 10m Air Rifle before the final, and then the Men’s 10m Air Pistol followed by the final.

Who should I expect to see?

With no medallist from Rio featuring at Tokyo 2020, the door is open for a new Olympic champion in the women’s 10m air rifle and the USA’s Mary Tucker will be among the favourites. The 19-year-old and world no.1 will face stiff competition from Hungary’s Eszter Meszaros and India’s Apurvi Chandela.

Rio 2016 silver and bronze medallist Felipe Almeida of Brazil and PANG Wei of People’s Republic of China will feature in the Men’s 10m Air Pistol. Meanwhile Republic of Korea’s JIN Jong-oh, the reigning world champion, will be hoping to continue his Olympic success with a fifth Olympic shooting title.
